Medical Narration
Let’s Work Together
Understanding Medical Narration
Everyone knows that the copy for medical narration is NOT easy! In fact, many voice talents prefer not to work on medical projects due to the complexity of the terminology, which often includes four and five-syllable words. This complexity can be daunting, but it’s a crucial aspect of medical narration voiceover. Having a facility for pronouncing long, complicated medical terminology is just one requirement for this genre. A voice talent needs to be well-versed in medical jargon, ensuring correct pronunciation and intonation. This accuracy is vital, as it lends credibility to the content and aids in the listener’s understanding.
Conveying Understanding and Engagement in Voiceover
In addition to pronunciation skills, you also need the ability to sound like you understand the subject matter and enjoy conveying it. This keeps the listener engaged and interested. A narrator who sounds bored or confused can quickly lose the audience’s attention.
Therefore, the ability to sound knowledgeable and enthusiastic is key to successful medical narration. It has been stated many times that my voice is a natural fit for medical narration. A voice for medical narration needs to exude confidence and clarity that keeps the delivery believable and real. The copy needs to be read fluently and naturally, at a comfortable pace, allowing the listener to absorb the material and follow the often long and convoluted sentences that are common in medical material.
E-Tutorials for Medical Sales Reps
Much of this medical content is in the form of e-tutorials for medical sales reps. It is crucial for a narrator to be comfortable with both the terminology and the content. These e-tutorials are instrumental in training sales reps, who need to understand complex medical concepts to effectively sell and explain products to healthcare professionals. Yet another aspect of medical narration is role-playing or character reads. These scenarios can involve playing the patient, a family member, or the doctor. A voice actor in this field must easily pivot into character mode and call upon acting skills and sensitivity, bringing the piece the appropriate emotion and/or pathos that each scenario requires. In medical narratives, the emotional tone is as important as the informational content. Whether conveying a patient’s experience, a doctor’s perspective, or a family member’s concerns, the narrator must strike the right emotional chord. This emotional resonance helps in making the material relatable and impactful. You can hear my full medical demo on this page, as well as additional samples from the many projects I have recorded.
